Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 4 cups fresh watermelon, cubed and seeded
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 6-8 lemons)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, plus extra for garnish
  • 4 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes for serving
  • Lemon slices for garnish

Method

Instructions
  1. Prepare the Watermelon Puree: Cube fresh watermelon and remove any seeds. Place watermelon chunks in a blender and blend until completely smooth to make about 2 cups of watermelon puree.
  2. Make the Simple Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup sugar with 1/2 cup water. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until sugar completely dissolves. Remove from heat and add fresh mint leaves, allowing them to steep for 10-15 minutes to infuse the syrup with mint flavor.
  3. Combine All Ingredients: In a large pitcher, combine the watermelon puree, fresh lemon juice, mint-infused simple syrup (strained to remove mint leaves), and the remaining 3.5 cups of cold water. Stir well to combine all ingredients thoroughly.
  4. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the lemonade for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld together. Serve over ice with fresh mint sprigs and lemon slices for garnish.

Notes

Choose ripe watermelon for natural sweetness, use fresh lemon juice for best flavor, muddle mint gently to release oils without bitterness, and make ahead as it tastes better after chilling for a few hours.
